{"id":5677,"date":"2026-03-01T11:02:48","date_gmt":"2026-03-01T10:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fonderia.net\/?p=5677"},"modified":"2026-03-09T11:15:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T10:15:48","slug":"cbam-foundries-at-risk-of-shutdown-according-to-assofond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fonderia.net\/en\/cbam-foundries-at-risk-of-shutdown-according-to-assofond\/","title":{"rendered":"CBAM: Foundries at risk of shutdown, according to Assofond."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:1248px;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:0px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p data-start=\"380\" data-end=\"509\">CBAM has become an increasingly topical issue over the last two years, culminating in its entry into force on <strong data-start=\"490\" data-end=\"508\">1 January 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"813\"><strong data-start=\"511\" data-end=\"523\">ASSOFOND<\/strong>, the trade association representing Italian foundries and a founding member of the <strong data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"644\">European Foundry Federation (EFF)<\/strong>, has expressed its concern about the uncertainties brought about by this regulation, in addition to the \u201csimple\u201d risk of rising costs that the sector is already facing.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"815\" data-end=\"1442\">\u201cWhat concerns foundries is the paralysis in the procurement of raw materials subject to CBAM such as <strong data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"964\">pig iron, ferroalloys and primary aluminium<\/strong>. The price of these essential production inputs for the sector is currently impossible to quantify, as it will depend on the value of <strong data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1120\">CBAM certificates<\/strong>, which will only be known once importers are able to purchase the certificates themselves (i.e. from <strong data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1239\">February 2027<\/strong>). This unprecedented situation has generated chaos: suppliers and buyers are currently unable to set a price, a condition that is leading to a freeze in sales and a tangible risk of material shortages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1444\" data-end=\"1732\">These raw materials are directly subject to the environmental duties applied at import under the regulation, facing cost increases of <strong data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1591\">up to 35%<\/strong>, while at the same time there are <strong data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1676\">no alternative sources of supply within Europe<\/strong>, or where present they are insufficient to meet demand.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"2029\">Assofond has therefore asked the <strong data-start=\"1767\" data-end=\"1789\">Italian Government<\/strong> to act as a spokesperson in Europe to <strong data-start=\"1828\" data-end=\"1921\">extend the transitional period that expired on 31 December 2025 to the 2026\u20132027 biennium<\/strong>, turning it into an <strong data-start=\"1942\" data-end=\"1965\">\u201cevaluation period\u201d<\/strong> in order to stabilise prices and prevent a production shutdown.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2301\">This request aims to safeguard the entire <strong data-start=\"2073\" data-end=\"2099\">Italian foundry sector<\/strong>, which includes <strong data-start=\"2116\" data-end=\"2213\">around 900 companies employing 23,000 workers and generating a total turnover of \u20ac6.6 billion<\/strong>, operating within a <strong data-start=\"2234\" data-end=\"2300\">circular economy system with products that are 100% recyclable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":5498,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5677","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
