Although the health emergency caused by the Covid-19 epidemic has had a major impact on all countries, with some very restrictive measures implemented to contain the pandemic and blocks on production, according to the latest World Census, published at the end of December 2021 by Modern Casting, its effects on the global production of castings have been fairly limited.

In 2020, the global output of castings (ferrous and non-ferrous) was 105.5 million tons, -3.8% down on the 2019 figures. The difference with the historical peak of 2018 where production exceeded 113 million tons has widened slightly and the average annual growth rate calculated over the last 30 years (CAGR – Compound annual growth rate) has weakened, dropping in 2020 to +2.6%, whereas until 2018-2019 it fluctuated at around +3%.
