Car crisis puts the brakes on no-ferrous metals: 2020 ends with -20% fall. Aluminum and red metals see biggest drop, with more moderate declines for zinc and magnesium. The pandemic dealt a heavy blow to the whole aluminum supply chain in Italy and Europe. Within this, the foundry alloys segment recorded the big- gest losses due to its heavy dependence on automotive customers – a sector already grappling with cyclical issues prior to covid. This negative picture is, in part, mitigated by the very strong demand from Asia, particularly in the second half of 2020.
